WAYNE’S BIO

WAYNE WELDEN – OWNER, THE VAULT

Hello, my name is Wayne Welden. I am the proprietor of The VAULT. I moved from Iowa to South Carolina in 1985. For twenty-five years I worked as a golf professional in the Myrtle Beach area, but a downturn in the economy made me the first major budget cut at a golf project I was involved in. In spite of the bleak economy, I ventured forth to fulfill my dream of opening a retail store in Charleston. Well, after many trials and tribulations, the store opened. It truly was a labor of love building and supplying the store. A trek was made to the Canadian border, where a friend had a line on some rowing shells and antique spots. The 50 & 60 ft. boats fit perfectly on top of the 26 ft. rental truck, and we “picked” our way back to Charleston. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillies when we hit town. The rest is history. .. my dream store. I thought I had the best job in the world as a golf pro in Myrtle Beach, but it pales in comparison to owning and operating your own business. My job description today is: Buy cool stuff for the store, and talk to nice folks all day about sports, pets, life, etc. I invite you to come down to The VAULT and introduce yourself and maybe even shop a little. Let me know where you’re from and your favorite team. I am from Iowa Falls, Iowa, and my teams are the Hawkeyes, Packers, and Twins. Our store is located at 307 King Street, and we look forward to seeing you soon. If you are unable to come by in person, you can use the world wide web to place an order. Keep an eye on this internet thing, I think it has a chance of catching on.

Sincerely, Wayne Welden
